I remember when I was about twelve or so, I picked up The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe at the public library. It was a winter evening when I first started reading it and I snuggled up under the blankets in my bed after school and my cat was laying on my feet like a heating pad. I spent the rest of the afternoon until dinner time reading it. I even took the book with me to the dinner table. I was so enthralled with the story. When I reached the last page my heart dropped. It was that moment you realized you only had a few words left till the story was over, done, gone. I could have cried. Later that week my mom told me that it was a series of books. I was over-joyed to say the least. (And yes I did cry at the end of The Last Battle, when it comes to books I have always been a sap, movies not so much.)
The Narnia books will always have a soft spot in my heart. I didn’t even have any inkling of the religious allusions at the time, I just loved the story. It was a childhood escape and a tale that made me feel warm. Those are the best kind of tales.
It goes without a doubt in my mind that C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien have played influential roles in my life creatively as well as giving me that escape from reality that is really important to me. I want to be transported when I read. So, when I found out that someone was making a movie about these two incredible authors and the story behind their stories, I practically leaped for joy. Not many people know of the close friendship shared by these two Brits. Not to mention at a very critical time in history, WWII.
C.S. Lewis’s BBC Radio talks during the Blitz in London has been described as being an inspiring voice in the darkness. I honestly couldn’t say I know this for certain, because obviously, I wasn’t there and I am not British, but I have read parts of Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis (which is the published version of his radio talks) and I think his arguments are quite incredible and I could see how he restored his listeners’ faith during such fear and chaos. I really just wanted to share the excitement about this upcoming movie! It is still in the production phases and I am crossing my fingers that it gets made since there is always that possibility that they drop it. So, go to the website and check it out. (If you click on the lion picture at the top of the post it will take you to their website) If so inclined, share with friends to help support this very unique and interesting story! Here is the teaser trailer:
I can’t wait until the movie comes out either.
I know, I really hope they don’t give up on it!
If they do we can protest with an email campaign or something that would serve the same purpose.
Well I’ve done some research and supposedly it is coming out in 2013 sometime, so I guess we don’t have any worries.
